Subject. This article discusses modern-day approaches to the definition of Financial Inclusion.
Objectives. The article aims to review the current approaches to the study of financial inclusion in the works of Russian and foreign authors.
Methods. For the study, we used comparative and content analyses.
Results. The article identifies a number of key factors determining the integration of broad segments of the population into the financial system, and it describes two main approaches to the consideration of financial inclusion by Russian and foreign scientists.
Conclusions and Relevance. Most scholars and authors of scientific papers understand and interpret the general categories of financial inclusion in roughly the same way. The results of the study can be useful in the banking sector when designing financial inclusion programmes, as well as investigating the issues of financial sector development.
