Subject The article addresses competition in the Russian business.
Objectives The aim of the study is to bring together the fragments of data in open sources to obtain the amount of information enabling to better understand the interdependence between market players in the business community under competition and economic crisis.
Methods I employ the survey technique and systems approach to analyze how crisis affects competition in business.
Results The paper presents analytical data, which reflect the performance of competitive environment in the Russian business, and identifies probable trends. The findings may serve as materials for scholarly studies and as recommendations for Russian business entities.
Conclusions The strongest effect of competition is in the food industry, IT-technologies, industries of construction materials and non-metallic products (including rubber and plastics products), the weakest – in the woodworking and pulp and paper industry and the fuel and energy complex. The key obstacles for Russian business entering new geographic and product markets are the lack of finance, high initial costs of business organization and saturation of sales markets.
