Subject The article addresses problems related to technological, environmental, financial and economic security of air travels. Objectives The study aims to assess the financial stability of airports' operations. Methods The methodology of the study rests on logical, correlation and regression multiple factor analysis. Results We obtained significant qualitative characteristics affecting the volume of passenger flow, like the number of delays of flights during a month, the volume of passenger transportation with a four-month lag, the number of flight delays with one and two-month lag. Based on the findings, we offer a method to assess the relationship between flight delays and changes in passenger traffic, on which basis it is possible to assess the correlation between the reluctance of passengers to fly by frequently delayed flights from both Sochi International Airport and other Russian airports. Conclusions and Relevance The offered methodology enables to perform a comprehensive analysis of airport operations to improve their passenger appeal. It is necessary to enhance financial stability and competitiveness of airports through investigating the causes of delays based on both expert evaluations and projected values.
