Importance The article deals with the issues of food security of Russia regarding such basic criteria as product self-sufficiency, product availability, etc. The level of food security in the view of recent global threats is the subject of the study. Objectives The aim of the article is a theoretical and practical substantiation of the need to search for and develop additional mechanisms to ensure a high level of food security for the population of Russia. Methods To analyze the threshold criteria for food security, we used the statistical, financial, horizontal, and vertical data analyses. Conclusions and Relevance To improve the food security of Russia, it is essential to afford people an economic access to quality food through targeted State assistance. The results of the study can be used for strategizing of the Russian economy's development and improvement of the mechanisms of State support for the Russian agro-industrial complex.
