Subject. Spatial economic systems in the context of digital transformation, operating in a hybrid (physical-digital) environment and subject to the influence of a new technological reality. Objectives. To identify the key features of the functioning of Russia's spatial economic systems in the new technological reality (including spatial heterogeneity and polarization) and to clarify the content of the concept of spatial economic systems in relation to the conditions of digital transformation through the prism of the evolution of digital and financial competencies. Methods. A systematic approach, methods of classification, abstraction, induction, deduction, methods of comparative and logical analysis, as well as methods of economic and statistical analysis are used. The empirical base includes data from the Rosstat and analytical materials from the Ministry of Finance of Russia. Results. The key features of the functioning of spatial economic systems of the Russian Federation in the context of digital transformation are identified and systematized, in particular, the stratification of regions into digital cores and digital peripheries is determined. The author's clarification of the concept of a spatial economic system is proposed in the context of a new technological reality that is changing the focus from material infrastructure to digital intellectual potential. The paper substantiates the transformation of digital and financial literacy from auxiliary skills into a fundamental social institution that affects investment efficiency and economic security of the state. Conclusions. The clarified content of the concept of spatial economic systems makes it possible to rethink the factors of regional development in the context of digital transformation. Digital and financial literacy are the basis for the formation of digital intellectual potential, ensuring inclusive transformation, increasing investment efficiency and integrated economic security of spatial economic systems.
