Subject. The national project Demography as a mechanism for improving the negative demographic trends in the country. Objectives. Assessment of the effectiveness of achieving the goals of the national project Demography in the subjects of the Volga Federal District. Methods. The methods of induction, deduction, analogy, statistical and multidimensional analysis are used. Results. The analysis of the target indicators of the Demography project within the regions of the Volga Federal District was carried out, which showed significant differences in the demographic development of the subjects of the studied district. For a comprehensive assessment of the effectiveness of achieving the goals of the national project, it is proposed to use a multidimensional comparison method such as the sum of places method. The specific indicators included in the integrated assessment were the targets of the national project. A rating of the regions of the Volga Federal District has been compiled, with the Republic of Tatarstan becoming the leader. In general, some progress has been achieved in the implementation of the national Demography project, but there has been no significant improvement in the demographic situation. Conclusions. The negative demographic trends that have developed in the country at the federal and regional levels are current realities of modern development. The analysis showed that the achievement of the targets of the national project Demography is uneven in the subjects of the Volga Federal District. The new national project Family is aimed at reducing regional differences in terms of demographic development, as well as improving the standard of living of citizens throughout the country.
