Subject. The article examines trends in population reproduction in the subjects of the Volga Federal District. Objectives. The focus is on identification of specifics of the population reproduction process, compilation of appropriate regional ratings. Methods. The study draws on methods of induction, deduction, analogy, generalization, comparison, statistical analysis, typologization, and multidimensional analysis. Results. The paper provides a comprehensive analysis of population reproduction trends specific for the subjects of the studied macroregion. I formed regional ratings on certain coefficients, calculated regional depopulation coefficients, proposed an integrated index of reproduction, and developed a typology of regions of the studied macroregion on its basis, with the allocation of leading regions, outsiders, and regions with average values of the integrated index. The article considers the practice of implementing the demographic policy in the Republic of Tatarstan, as a flagship region, according to the compiled rating on the integrated index of population reproduction. Conclusions. Problems related to the processes of population reproduction, such as low birth rate, narrowed reproduction, depopulation, are typical for all subjects of the Volga Federal District. The regional policy should consider them to neutralize negative demographic trends.
