In the article the tendency, factors and conditions of structure rearrangement of forest sector in Russia is considered. The country with a vast forest potential as a result of technical backwardness and irrationality of structure of production turned out to be many times lower that developed countries to activities of effectiveness and resource efficiency. The advanced processing of timber is the main priority of realization of regional forest potential. However, suggested projects, as practice shows, hinges on contingencies, which is analyzed on concrete examples.
