Subject The article deals with the study of the market for educational services and the labor market, and their interaction in four regions of the Volga Federal District of the Russian Federation: the Republic of Tatarstan, Mari El Republic, Chuvash Republic, and the Ulyanovsk oblast.
Objectives The article aims to identify and study the labor market needs and educational opportunities.
Methods For the study, I used the methods of logical and statistical analyses, and in-depth expert survey.
Results The article identifies the problems of higher education in the regions, analyzes the state of regional labor markets, and it defines possible ways of harmonizing the interaction of universities with the labor market.
Conclusions The results of the study show that the content and process of education do not meet the requirements of the labor market. It is therefore necessary to develop joint projects and effective lines of communication between educational institutions and employers. The successful development of higher education institutions is based on their close interaction with the labor market, as it helps shape the professional qualifications of graduates in accordance with the needs of the employers.
