Importance The article studies the capacity of machine-building enterprises with single-item and short-scale production in the Kola Peninsula in meeting the demand for their products in the regional economy. Objectives The article aims to find possible ways to address the problem of labor shortage, through inviting experts from outside or drawing local staff into employment. Methods For the study, we used methods of statistical analysis and the econometric methods. Results The article proposes certain ways to create conditions for the training and retraining of personnel for the regional machine-building enterprises of the Kola Peninsula. The focus of the article is on staff resources as a key to the innovative development of these enterprises. Conclusions and Relevance The proposed solutions can be applied successfully in other regions of the Northwestern Federal District and Northern area due to the close regional integration of these regions. The proper solution to the staffing problem will allow for the creation of conditions for effective spatial interaction among the actors in the regional economy.
