Subject This paper focuses on the issue of business environment development in the Kyrgyz Republic. Objectives The paper aims to identify and describe the substantive aspects of the formation of business environment in the Kyrgyz Republic on the basis of the historical and economic analysis of regional development. Methods For the study, I used a systems approach, methods of scientific abstraction, and statistical methods. Results I found that the historical and economic trends shaping business environment in Kyrgyzstan have an impact on the current state of entrepreneurship in the region. The paper clarifies the basic chronological frontiers of formation of entrepreneurial activities in Kyrgyzstan, which taken together help to comprehend the modern contours of business environment and determine the nature of the future development of the region. Conclusions The analysis shows that the current state of entrepreneurship in Kyrgyzstan is the result of objective historical and socio-economic changes. The institutional problems of the post-Soviet period of development of Kyrgyzstan had a major impact on the development of business processes, significantly constraining the entrepreneurial initiatives of economic actors. Despite the difficulties, the entrepreneurship in Kyrgyzstan has a positive development dynamics. However, the potential of entrepreneurship in the region is not unlocked still.
