The new development regions: A starting point of environmental policies in the face of economic activity intensifying

Subject The article discusses the resource-intensive areas of economic activities based on regional resource and economic characteristics.
Objectives The article aims to analyze the features of the new development regions in the context of setting priorities for environmental policies in the context of revitalizing of economic activity.
Results The most important element of regional policy is the environmental one. The paper proposes a definition of regional environmental policy. It shows that the direction of the policy realization is determined by natural-resource characteristics and peculiarities of the territory development. The article highlights the peculiarities typical of the new development territories only, which coordinate the basic directions of the policy. The article says that the leading direction of regional environmental policy to execute strategic plans, is to bring the territorial structure of the economy in line with its resource base, geosystem-based organization of natural complexes, and geopolitical situation as to cross-border regions.
Conclusions and Relevance Given the peculiarities of territory development, the specifics of the existing structure of the economy and future directions as well, a special place in regional environmental policy is given to the environmental planning of the territory, finding the optimal ratio of commercially used land and environment-forming (conserved) land. The results of the research are the basis for the development of environmental strategies of regions, which economies are based on the resource-oriented industries.
