The article shows the role of the fuel and energy complex of the Irkutsk region and Siberian Federal District of the Russian Federation. The article depicts the main problems constraining the development of the fuel and energy sector. The authors make a conclusion on the need to bring the competitive advantages of the Irkutsk region into play to change the energy balance structure for efficiency growth of the economy and improve competitiveness of the region's production.
