Importance Notwithstanding numerous researches into investment and economic security, it is undeniably necessary to identify threats and find effective mechanisms for mitigating investment security risks from perspectives of the sustainable socio-economic development of Russia. Objectives The research aims to identify the main threats to investment security of the Russian Federation at the current point of time. Methods The research uses general scientific methods, methods of generalization and synthesis, and techniques for economic, structural and statistical analysis through a systems approach. Results We studied issues of ensuring the investment security as a functional determinant of economic security. The article sets out factors influencing the investment security and states that analysis of internal and external threats proves to be the most critical step of the investment security analysis. We analyze threats relating to the level of Russia's investment security and propose measures to reinforce the national investment security. Conclusions and Relevance Investment security is the most critical element of the national economic security, being a priority issue for the Russian Federation. Investment security is impacted by an array of internal and external threats, which proceed from different conditions and circumstances. To overcome investment security threats, investment policy tools should be appropriately configured to ensure extended reproduction, intensify the innovative component, improve the business and investment climate in the country. Russia will preserve its investment security and attain the sustainable economic growth if it responds to sanctions quickly and properly and improves its investment climate.
