Importance Nowadays the substance of labor and respective attitudes change as it decreases in human life. Public determinants and patterns in the labor market transform. There is no common comprehension of the way the substance and implications of the economic inactivity phenomenon in the labor market influence the public development and security. However, it is necessary to prevent threats and counter hazards for the society and economy.
Objectives The research concentrates on the passive behavior of people in the labor market. We identify determinants and trends of the passive behavior in the labor market nationwide and worldwide. We observe the formation of economic inactivity among the working age population in the Russian economy in terms of its annual trends and correlations.
Methods The research involves methods of logic, descriptive analysis, analysis of time series and non-parametric statistics.
Results We determined the pool of information and evaluated official statistics on the people's involvement in the labor force. We observed the development of the passive behavior in the labor market of Russia and worldwide in terms of determinants and trends, and describe annual dynamics and correlations in the formation of the economic inactivity among the working age population in Russia.
Conclusions and Relevance Empirically obtained knowledge of the economic inactivity patterns among the working age population enables us to forecast further trends. It is noteworthy that the State policy is able to help people relish labor and strive to publicly important activity. Relevant conditions shall be created to support this throughout people's lives.
