Importance The research focuses on the professional identity of personality that lays the basis for his/her further professional and personal fulfillment. The society and the State need to revise certain factors that influence prospective students in choosing their future career in modern Russia.
Objectives The research demonstrates the importance of professional self-determination for the economic development of Russia and the formation of intellectually and culturally advanced civic society.
Methods The article applies a correlation of employment indicators as they describe the market needs and graduates of educational institutions by specialization group. We also trace the trade-off among various employees, their educational level and remuneration.
Results The research reviews the fact that the technological aspect of Russia's economic development lags behind that of advanced countries, thus ultimately affecting the development level of social and employment relationships in the real sector. Having analyzed statistical data for 2000–2015 and scientific proceedings on the matter, we detect an increase in the number of people whose employment is of no relevance to their initial professional training. We also find an extension in the simple reproduction period in segments of the real sector, non-existent direct relation between the educational level and remuneration of employees.
Conclusions and Relevance The findings can be used to improve cooperation mechanisms of education institutions and the labor market in Russia, and forecast staffing needs of business entities, regions and the State.
