Importance The research examines the efficiency of economic development in the constituent entity of the Russian Federation. The article focuses on how to increase the efficiency of the economy in the constituent entity of the Russian Federation at the macroeconomic level. Objectives The research formulates the methodological approach to increasing the efficiency of the economic development in the constituent entity of the Russian Federation in the form of macrosystems. Methods The methodological underpinning includes fundamental tenets of the theory and methodology of a systems analysis, theory of economic systems management, scientific researches in the national and regional economy. Results The research forges a methodological approach to monitor the efficiency of economic development in constituent entities of the Russian Federation as if they be macrosystems. Applying the method and its tiered segmentation will help to set priorities and provide recommendations for reasonable hierarchical structuring of the economy not only in a certain constituent entity, but also in the Russian Federation as a whole. Conclusions and Relevance High efficiency of economic development can be achieved only if the difference between paid services per capita and average monetary income per capita is not big, with their absolute value being as high as possible. The findings could be used to formulate and improve the Strategy for socio-economic development and national security of the Russian Federation so to minimize the asymmetric development of the constituent entities.
