Our paper reflects the main trends of Russian state policy in the field of promoting the sustainable development of rural areas and agriculture. Analyzes the concept of sustainable development in rural areas of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2020 , the State Agriculture Development Program and the regulation of agricultural products, raw materials and food for 2013-2020, the federal program "Sustainable rural development for 2014-2020". Emphasizes the necessity and validity of the adoption of these programs.
