Using the example of electric-power industry, the authors of the article demonstrate that the use of horizontal integration in the leading branches of economy and especially in the natural monopolies under reform proves to be utterly ineffective. Vertical integration and the realization of potential inherent in such a structure is contrariwise likely to enable the Russian trade to moderate the consequences of financial crisis if not annihilate them completely.
