Importance The article deals with the identification of promising areas for further industrialization in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Objectives The study aims to identify prospective export industries and products that may contribute to the further enhancement of raw materials and semi-finished products processing to improve the competitiveness of Uzbekistan's economy in the global market over the medium term. The analysis rests on the experience of some developing countries with high rates of economic growth.
Methods This study employs systematization and analysis of works of Russian and foreign scholars on economy industrialization, and attempts to apply internationally renowned methods of identification and facilitation of prospective industries in conditions of Uzbekistan.
Results The undertaken analysis reveals prospective industries and products that may ensure the international competitiveness of exports and sustainability of high growth rates of the Uzbek economy in the future.
Conclusions and Relevance The strategy of further industrial reforms in the Republic of Uzbekistan and strengthening its trade positions in the external markets should target consistent diversification of the commodity structure of exports focusing on realization of hidden competitive advantages and enhancement of technological intensity of exported products.
